Who is responsibleThis site is run by Urban Orchid Crest from 1-27-5 Matsubara, Saga, Saga 840-0831, Japan (telephone +81 952-56-9496, email editorial@urbanorchidcrest.com). For the little personal information this site handles, the operator is the business handler under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI). No person's name is shown on the pages; if you need it for a legal matter, ask by email.
What this site isUrban Orchid Crest is a short reading list of 12 notes that point to stories printed by other publishers. It has no accounts, no log-in, no shop, no newsletter and no comment section, so there is very little to collect. This page explains the three things that do exist: messages you choose to send, one cookie, and the ordinary records a web server keeps.
Reading the pagesYou can read every page without giving any personal information. We do not run visitor analytics, we do not use advertising or retargeting tags, and we do not embed social-media buttons, maps, videos or fonts from other companies. The fonts, the style sheet and the small scripts all load from this same domain.
The contact formThe form on the contact page does not send anything to our server. When you press its button, your own email program opens with a new message addressed to editorial@urbanorchidcrest.com, and the name, email address, optional telephone number and message you typed are filled in. Nothing leaves your device until you press send in your email program. Because of this we cannot see a form that you started but did not send, and the message travels by the ordinary email system, not through a service of ours.
What we receive and whyIf you send a message we receive what the email contains: your name, the address you wrote from, the telephone number if you gave one, the text of your message and the time it was sent. We use it for four things only: to read and answer you, to correct a summary that you reported as wrong, to handle a publisher's request to change or remove a note, and to keep a short record that such a request was made so that a removed note is not added again by mistake. We do not use it for marketing and we do not add you to any list.
The cookieThe site sets one cookie, named hcbz, with the value yes, after you press OK on the small notice at the bottom of the home page or the not-found page. Its only job is to stop that notice from showing again. It lasts about 400 days, applies to the whole site and is a first-party cookie, which means your browser returns it only to this site. It holds no name, no identifier and no tracking data. The cookies page repeats these details, and the site uses no other cookie and no local storage.
Server recordsLike any website, the company that hosts these pages may keep standard access records: the visitor's IP address, the time, the page requested and the type of browser. We do not read them to build profiles of visitors and we do not combine them with anything else. The hosting arrangements may change; if you want to know who currently hosts the site, ask by email.
Sharing and links to other sitesWe do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not hand it to advertisers. A message you send is carried by your own email provider and received by the mailbox provider for this domain; they handle it as email services do. Every note links to a publisher's website. When you follow such a link you leave this site and the publisher's own privacy policy applies; we do not know what that publisher collects and we receive nothing from it.
Keeping and deletingWe keep a message while the matter is open. After that we delete it, except where we must keep it for a legal reason or where we keep a one-line record that a publisher asked for a note to be removed. We have not set an automatic deletion timer, so if you want a message of yours deleted sooner, ask and it will be done once the request has been read.
Servers abroadThe mailbox and hosting services used for this site may store data on servers outside Japan. We have not asked them to keep data in any particular country. If that matters to you, do not send personal details through the form; the pages can be read without sending anything.
Your rights under APPIYou may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it or to stop using it. Write to editorial@urbanorchidcrest.com and say what you want. We may ask you to confirm that the request comes from the person concerned before we act. Where the law allows us to refuse, for example because we must keep a record, we will tell you why.
Safeguards, honestlyMessages stay in the site's mailbox and we do not copy them elsewhere. We do not claim any protection beyond what the email services themselves provide, and ordinary email is not a secure channel. Please do not send identity numbers, payment details, health information or anything else sensitive by email to this address.
ChildrenThe site is a general reading list and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly want messages from children under 16; if a parent tells us that one was sent, we will delete it.
Changes to this pageWhen this page changes, the revision date at the top changes with it. The current text is the one in force. A change that affects how personal information is handled will be written here before it takes effect.
